چکیده

A comprehensive understanding of airflow characteristics and particle transport in the human lung can be useful modelling to inform clinical diagnosis, treatment, management, including prescription medication risk assessment for rehabilitation. One difficulties treatment disorders lies patients’ variable physical caused by age, amongst other factors, such as different sizes. precise comparison between age groups with various flow rates is missing literature, this study aims analyse aerosol within age-specific lung. ANSYS Fluent solver large-eddy simulation (LES) model were employed numerical simulation. The was validated available literature computational results showed airway size-reduction significantly affected upper airways. This reports higher deposition at mouth-throat region larger diameter particles. overall efficiency (DE) increased size reduction rate. Lung aging effected pressure distribution a drop reported aged compared younger These findings could medical management through individualised drug-aerosol delivery processes patient-specific

Micro Particles Transport and Deposition in Realistic Geometry of Human Upper Airways

Realistic geometry of human upper airways from mouth to the end of trachea was reconstructed by implementing the CT-Scan images of a male subject.   A computational model for analyzing the airflow in the airways was developed and several simulations were performed.  To capture the anisotropy of the inhaled airflow in the upper airways, the Reynolds stress transport model of turbulence was used ...

Micro Particle Transport and Deposition in Human Upper Airways

The hazard caused by inhaled particles depends on the site at which they deposit within the respiratory system. Knowledge of respiratory aerosol deposition rates and locations is necessary to (1) evaluate potential health effects and establish critical exposure limits and (2) design effective inhaled medications that target specific lung regions. Particles smaller than 10 μm in diameter can be ...

Aerosol properties and lung deposition.

important experiments on total and regional lung deposition for healthy subjects has recently been published by the International Commission on Radiation Protection (ICRP) [2]. The mean values of experimental deposition data are approximated by mathematical expressions, which are then implemented into a computer program [3] that is commercially available on diskette. Since this model is applica...

In Vitro Surfactant and Perfluorocarbon Aerosol Deposition in a Neonatal Physical Model of the Upper Conducting Airways

OBJECTIVE Aerosol delivery holds potential to release surfactant or perfluorocarbon (PFC) to the lungs of neonates with respiratory distress syndrome with minimal airway manipulation. Nevertheless, lung deposition in neonates tends to be very low due to extremely low lung volumes, narrow airways and high respiratory rates. In the present study, the feasibility of enhancing lung deposition by in...

Modeling airflow and particle transport/deposition in pulmonary airways.

A review of research papers is presented, pertinent to computer modeling of airflow as well as nano- and micron-size particle deposition in pulmonary airway replicas. The key modeling steps are outlined, including construction of suitable airway geometries, mathematical description of the air-particle transport phenomena and computer simulation of micron and nanoparticle depositions. Specifical...
